Ceramic Implants – the Metal-Free Implant Solution

Ceramic implants replace the tooth root with an artificial root made of high-performance ceramic (zirconium dioxide) instead of titanium. They are white like the natural tooth, contain no metal, and are considered particularly tissue-friendly. At our Zahnkompetenzzentrum, we have been using them for years as an established part of biological dentistry – planned in 3D, placed using navigated implantology.

Who ceramic implants are interesting for

Whether a ceramic implant is the best solution in your situation is something we clarify in a personal consultation, based on the findings, 3D X-ray (cone-beam CT) and your own wishes. In some situations – for example, with very narrow jawbone or particular loading conditions – a different approach may make more sense. We tell you openly what we recommend, and why.

How Treatment Works

  1. Consultation and diagnostics: Findings, photos, 3D X-ray (cone-beam CT), and clarification of any pre-existing conditions and medications. As part of biological dentistry, we also check health markers beforehand, such as vitamin D3, which are important for bone healing.
  2. Digital planning: We plan the position, length and diameter of the implant on a 3D model, and transfer the plan precisely into the mouth using guided implantology.
  3. Placing the implant: The procedure is carried out under local anaesthetic, or on request under sedation or general anaesthesia. We also use the body's own PRF (platelet-rich fibrin) to support wound healing.
  4. Healing: The implant generally fuses with the bone over a period of several months. Temporary restorations ensure that you're not without a tooth during this time.
  5. Ceramic crown: Once healing is complete, you receive your all-ceramic crown – precision-made by our in-house dental technicians.
  6. Aftercare: Regular check-ups and professional dental cleaning preserve the result in the long term.

Common Questions About Ceramic Implants

Do ceramic implants last as long as titanium implants? Modern zirconia implants show good medium-term results in clinical studies; long-term data beyond ten years is still limited. What matters – as with any implant – is healthy bone, good oral hygiene, and regular aftercare.

Can I switch from titanium to ceramic? Replacing implants that have already healed in place only makes sense in justified cases. We'll advise you honestly on this, based on your individual findings.

How long does the whole treatment take? From planning to the finished crown, it usually takes three to six months, depending on the available bone and how healing progresses.

Saturday

What “by arrangement” means

On Saturdays we treat by prior arrangement — specifically for matters that need a long, uninterrupted block of time: implant placements, larger surgical procedures, extensive dental prosthetics, treatment under sedation or general anaesthesia, and appointments for patients who travel a longer distance and would like to have everything done in one day.

For short matters — a polish, a check-up, having a filling looked at — we will find an appointment together during the week. That is usually quicker for you as well.

Whether your case fits, we can clarify on the phone in two minutes.
